Datafolha: Tarcísio is approved by 30% in the city of SP – 09/01/2023 – Power

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), is approved by 30% of voters in the state capital. For another 38% of São Paulo citizens, his government is fair, while 27% consider it bad or terrible.

The numbers were calculated by Datafolha in its most recent opinion poll in São Paulo, which also showed the intention to vote in the 2024 municipal race and the evaluation of political actors in the city.

The survey was carried out this week, on Tuesday (29) and Wednesday (30), with 1,092 voter interviews. The margin of error is plus or minus three points.

The governor’s performance is lower than that recorded in the state as a whole, making the exception that the comparison is with the only Datafolha survey available about his government so far, done in April. The numbers, of course, may have changed.

In that survey, 44% of São Paulo considered the government excellent or good, against 11% who rejected it. The regular assessment matched the current one in the capital: 39%.

The governor was one of the big surprises in last year’s election race, displacing the PSDB from the dispute for the second round with Fernando Haddad (PT). Tarcísio was chosen for the dispute by then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), of whom he was Minister of Infrastructure.

Without political savvy, but with the sewing in the state being done by the president of the PSD, the current state secretary of government Gilberto Kassab, Tarcísio stuck with the majority Bolsonarist vote in the state. In the second round, he and the former boss had the same 55% of valid votes, with the difference that nationally Bolsonaro lost to PT Lula.

But in the capital, the story was different, with the current Minister of Finance Haddad defeating the governor by 54.5% against 45.5% of valid voters.

The tendency to the left will be put to the test next year, with Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) taking the lead in that same poll, with 32% of the voting intentions, against 24% for Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), supported by Tarcísio.

In the city, the governor encounters more resistance among those who are more educated (35% rejection) and those who disapprove of Nunes’ administration (61%). It has more support among evangelicals associated with Bolsonarism (37%), people aged 60 or over (37%) and, with the opposite sign, among potential voters of the current mayor (49%).

In addition to general state issues, problems in the area of ​​security interfere with Tarcísio’s life among the people of São Paulo. The governor tried to work together with Nunes to mitigate the effects of the expansion of cracolândia, but so far the results have not been tangible — while back and forth about public policies, a hallmark of his government, were frequent.
