Dilma says that the United States uses the dollar as a “weapon” in geopolitical conflicts

The president of the New Development Bank, known as Banco dos Brics, Dilma Rousseff, said that the United States uses the dollar as a “weapon” for sanctions in geopolitical conflicts. The declaration was made during a speech at the 11th World Peace Forum, at Tsinghua University, in Beijing.

“In the context of geopolitical conflicts, the dollar has been used as a weapon of sanctions, raising energy and food prices and further interrupting supply chains,” said Dilma last Sunday (2) during the event.

The former president considers that the North Americans act to contain the rise of new economic powers, informed Poder360. However, she stressed that it will be difficult for the US to “contain China [como foi feito] with Japan”.

“The fact that the world has accepted for many decades the existence of a single international reserve currency has given rise to an asymmetric financial system that, as always, generates greater advantages for the country that issues that currency”, pointed out Rousseff.

The president of the Banco dos Brics said that the emergence of another hegemonic currency like that of the USA is unlikely. She defended that the monetary system includes emerging countries.

“The growing participation in global trade and capital market transactions involving emerging economies suggests that the dollar’s dominance will further diminish, making the global monetary system more diversified and multipolar,” he said.
