Digital popularity: Marina grows, and Dino remains the leader – 06/15/2023 – Politics

Amidst the dehydration of the Ministry of the Environment in the provisional restructuring measure of the Esplanada dos Ministérios, the holder of the portfolio, Marina Silva (Rede), gained digital popularity and reached third place among the ministers of the Lula government (PT).

The data is from the IPD (Digital Popularity Index), which ranges from 0 to 100 and is analyzed daily by the research and consulting company Quaest. It is calculated using an algorithm that collects and processes 152 variables from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Google platforms.

Flávio Dino (PSB), Minister of Justice and Public Security, remained in first place among the members of the Esplanada dos Ministérios, still in the wake of clashes with opponents. He overtook Fernando Haddad (PT), da Fazenda, in April. The petista remains in second place, with 72.52 points.

Marina began her tenure at the head of the Environment in fourth place in terms of relevance on the networks, rising to third place in February. It lost prominence from March onwards, oscillating between fifth and fourth places. In June, she returned to the podium, with a final score of 45.89, an increase of almost 8 points compared to May.

The movement in virtual performance coincides with the processing of the MP of the Ministries, which reorganized the structures of the federal government after Lula took office and generated tension between the Planalto and the Chamber of Deputies.

The rapporteur for the provisional measure and leader of the MDB in the Chamber, Isnaldo Bulhões Jr., empowered portfolios commanded by the centrão and transferred competences originally distributed to the ministries of the Environment, Agrarian Development and Indigenous Peoples to other bodies.

Marina lost national information systems on solid waste, basic sanitation and water resources, in addition to the ANA (National Water Agency) and the CAR (Rural Environmental Registry), an instrument considered important for managing the inspection of environmental crimes in rural properties.

The case had repercussions, especially due to the endorsement given by Lula to the emptying of the Environment to the detriment of the Civil House, which the PT member decided to shield. The minister, who has held the position in Lula’s previous terms, said that credibility is not enough to recover Brazil’s image in the environmental agenda.

“The world will look at the legal framework and see that the structure of government is not the one that won the elections, it is the structure of government that lost. This will close all our doors,” she said at the House Environment Committee on May 24th.

Dino, on the other hand, remained at the forefront of digital popularity with new disputes involving opposition parliamentarians. The most emblematic case, which continues to this day, is with Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES).

On May 9, the Chief Justice said that do Val may be from SWAT, the US Police Special Tactical Group, but that he is from the Avengers. The term alludes to superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“You don’t need to go to the door of the Ministry of Justice to make internet video. If you’re from Swat, I’m from the Avengers. Do you know Captain America? Spider-Man? So that’s how we do it democratic debate,” he said.

Almost a month after the statement, on June 2, Val made a publication on Twitter with a photo of himself in swimming trunks, next to a photo of Dino, also in a bathing suit. Over the image, the caption: “Each one uses the weapon he has!”. The tweet went viral and generated wide repercussions among Internet users.

More recently, the minister returned to the networks after pronouncing on measures to be taken in case Roger Waters, co-founder of Pink Floyd, uses Nazi symbols in performances in Brazil – the singer’s tour must pass through five cities in the country.

Among other highlights are Haddad and the Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet (MDB), who despite losing popularity in absolute terms, remained at the top of the ranking, in second and fourth place (63.72 and 45.89), respectively.

Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), vice-president and Minister of Development, maintained a virtually stable performance after falling in April, remaining in fifth place, with 40.23 points.

The economic agenda has taken precedence in the government, with the approval of measures already validated by the Legislative and Judiciary that can yield at least R$ 130 billion to the public coffers, in addition to the endorsement of the new fiscal framework, and the incentive program for popular cars, announced at the end of May.

For the final grade, five dimensions are considered, such as fame (number of followers), engagement (comments and likes per post), mobilization (shares), valence (proportion of positive and negative reactions) and interest (search volume).

Each dimension is weighted by a model assimilated by the machine based on the real results of past elections, with thousands of candidacies monitored by the company.
