This Monday (22) Federal Justice annulled the inauguration of the current president of the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), the former governor of Acre, Jorge Viana (PT). The preliminary decision complied with a request by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).

The parliamentarian argued that Viana did not prove fluency in English, a minimum requirement to hold the position. Flávio Bolsonaro also questioned a change approved by the Apex Deliberative Council to allow the former governor to take office without proving fluency in English.

For the substitute judge of the 5th Judiciary Section of the Federal District, Diana Wanderlei, “such a proposal for amendment, ‘approved’ by the Deliberative Council, characterizes a clear deviation from the purpose of the administrative act”, as it goes “against the specific objectives of the agency” and ” for benefiting the author of said proposal [Viana]”.

The magistrate gave Viana a period of 45 days to present a document that proves proficiency in English or a video in which he appears speaking English to be kept in office.
