Deputy who took a photo with a gun says she will sue Gleisi – 03/20/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

Federal deputy Júlia Zanatta (PL-SC), who has been accused of inciting violence by allies of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), says she will sue PT president, deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), after having his name associated with Nazism by the PT leader.

Last week, the PL parliamentarian published a photo on social networks in which she appeared holding a carbine and wearing a T-shirt whose print showed a hand with four fingers perforated by bullets.

The president, who lost the little finger of his left hand in an accident at work in 1964, is customarily called “nine fingers” by Bolsonaristas.

“Nazi behavior by the deputy of SC, in apology for violence against Lula”, reacted Gleisi, in a publication on the networks. “The one who cannot lower their guard is Brazilian society — and our institutions — who insist on inciting violence and sowing hatred. We are studying measures against this criminal act,” he also wrote.

Zanatta, who had already told the Panel that he would file a complaint against the PT president at the Chamber’s Ethics Council, decided to file a lawsuit against Gleisi for slander and defamation. More than ten people, including parliamentarians, would also be in his sights and could become targets of lawsuits.

To the Panel, Zanatta denied having referred to Lula with the publication made from a shooting club. “Is it written Lula on the shirt? It’s not, right. It’s not written Lula. I think he’s not the only one missing a finger or two, I don’t know. It’s not written Lula and at no time did I say in my text: ‘Let’s attack’, ‘let’s take up arms to make a revolution'”, he said.

Zanatta even claimed to have won the shirt of the owner of the shooting club where he took the photo. “I won it right away, I put it on and took a picture. But my text does not mention incitement to violence.”

In the post, the deputy quotes Lula, writing: “Come and take it! We can’t let our guard down. Unfortunately, the situation is not easy. With Lula in power, we left a dream of freedom to move to a unique and exclusive defense of jobs , of the people who invested in the weapons sector.”

Lula’s allies, in turn, intend to sue the parliamentarian. Deputy leader of the government in the Chamber, deputy Alencar Santana (PT-SP) sees in the parliamentarian’s post an incitement to violence.

“It is a threat to the life of the President of the Republic. So it also goes against the penal code there, specifically the law of the Democratic State”, he said.
