Deputy wants to create the Front in Defense of Education without indoctrination

Federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) tries to gather enough signatures to create the Parliamentary Front for Education without Ideological Indoctrination. With the initiative, the parliamentarian intends to follow up on complaints of ideological indoctrination in schools, raise awareness among parents, students and teachers and develop projects with solutions for extreme cases. So far, 107 parliamentarians have signed the request for the creation of the Front, which needs 91 more adhesions to be constituted.

“Ideological indoctrination in teaching can have profound and lasting consequences for the development of children and young people, as it limits the space for dialogue and critical reflection, in addition to promoting a unilateral and reductionist view of reality”, says the structuring requirement of the Front. “Therefore, it is necessary to create a parliamentary front to debate and monitor public policies, ensuring that teaching is free from any type of prejudice and indoctrination, providing students with access to diverse content, based on scientific evidence and respecting the diversity of opinions” , to be continued.

To reinforce his flag, the deputy started posting videos with examples of teachers who use their position to defend political positions, without showing the contradictory. in one of thema teacher dedicates time in the classroom to criticize supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro and praise Lula.

“We want to make parents aware of the crimes that happen to their children in schools and universities in Brazil and do whatever it takes to spare our young people from this evil indoctrination,” Gayer told Gazeta do Povo.

For congresswoman Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), who supports the initiative, “the teachers were transformed into indoctrinators who pass on a superficial learning enough for the students to be ‘little robots’ of a political project in the future”. Therefore, she defends a “school without a party – neither on the right nor on the left”.

Parliamentary Front

The parliamentary fronts in the National Congress are associations of parliamentarians from various parties to debate issues of interest to society. They can be composed only of deputies or mixed, with deputies and senators. For a front to be created, an application must be presented with the support of at least one third of members of the Legislative Branch (deputies and senators); the name of the Parliamentary Front and the representative responsible for providing the information.

In the last legislature alone, 353 parliamentary fronts were created, 8 of which were linked to Education. The front against school indoctrination will be the first on the subject to be created in Congress, if it gets the necessary number of signatures.

School without Party

In the Chamber of Deputies, the Project for the School without a Party (PL 7.180/2014) is still pending. In its basic formulation, it provided that a poster with six “duties of the teacher” would be posted in classrooms – the most recent substitute extends the same “duties” to the content of textbooks and tests, which are also subject to ideologization -, in a questionable attempt to achieve a totally neutral teaching.

The PL of Escola sem Partido suffered a defeat at the end of 2018, when the allied deputies themselves missed the meetings of the commission created to analyze the text, which ended up not being voted on. The project was unarchived in 2019 and since then has been stopped, despite new proposals having been added to the original text.
