Alberto Neto justifies that given this year’s ebb, it is necessary to think about future alternatives for unexpected climate phenomena
Brasilia DF) – Federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto, sent to the ministers of Infrastructure, Renan Filho, and Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, Indications for the creation of an “annual work” plan for the Amazon, placing dredging on a constant and permanent basis in the rivers Of region.
“When there is no dredging, the depth of the river is reduced, and this impairs navigability. With dredging, the depth is increased, facilitating the transit of vessels. In Amazonas, the rivers are the roads, this annual dredging plan in the Amazonas rivers would be a guarantee of trafficable stretches”,
explained.
In documents n.1408/23 and n.1409/23, the parliamentarian justifies that given the catastrophic effects of this year’s historic low tide, it is necessary to think about future alternatives aimed at unexpected climatic phenomena, to minimize impacts on communities and the Manaus Free Trade Zone .
Collective holidays
This week it was reported that “the harmful” effects of the atypical low water in the region’s rivers began to compromise the economy of the ZFM (Manaus Free Zone). Thirty-five companies in the ZFM Industrial Hub will send their workers home, on an extraordinary basis, on collective vacation.
The LG, Samsung, Yamaha and Philco factories will stop production until November 4th. In total, 25 thousand workers are unsure about the guarantee of the continuation of their employment contracts. The collective vacation agreement began to be approved yesterday by the Metalworkers Union of Amazonas.
“Given the impasse we are currently experiencing, the negative developments are beginning to affect industrial production due to the region’s logistical deficiencies, given the difficulty in navigation. We need concrete executive actions, and that is why we suggest the creation of this plan so that the dredging work is permanent and we can minimize the impacts of drought in the region”,
said the parliamentarian.
Air logistical support
In another Recommendation for the Minister of Defense, José Mucio, the parliamentarian calls for air logistical support actions during the drought that hits the state of Amazonas to avoid shortages in the interior.
The State Government has declared a state of emergency in 59 municipalities and several measures are underway to face this severe drought. However, one of the biggest concerns is still supplying the most remote and difficult-to-access regions.
“In many municipalities, essential inputs, such as food, drinking water, cooking gas, gasoline and construction materials, are running out. In this scenario, air transport plays a fundamental role in allowing such supplies to reach these difficult-to-access locations more quickly and guarantee what is necessary for the population,” emphasized Captain Alberto Neto.
