Deputy presents bill to amnesty Bolsonaro – 06/30/2023 – Panel

Former president of Patriota, federal deputy Adilson Barroso (PL-SP) filed a bill shortly after the end of the trial at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to grant amnesty to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Barroso was a first-time ally of Bolsonaro and almost affiliated him to run in the 2018 elections. At the last minute, the then-postulant preferred the PSL. Then, in 2021, he tried to shelter it again after Bolsonaro broke with the old party. Efforts resulted in his expulsion from the party and the decision to remove him from the presidency by the TSE.

The bill pardons all those who, in the 2022 elections, have committed acts that are later investigated or prosecuted in the form of crimes of a political and electoral nature, “such as those committed for political reasons, including conduct within the scope of freedom of expression. expression, manifestation and belief”. The proposal rules out amnesty for convictions for heinous crimes, against life or public and private property.

For the avoidance of doubt, an article also clarifies that the political rights of those who benefit from the law are guaranteed.

In the justification, Barroso points out that we are experiencing “moments of tension”, “no matter which side you were rooting for or militating for”.

“The search for a peaceful solution to the controversies arising from this process impels us to present this bill that aims to build bridges so that we can face the challenges of the phase that will come with serenity and fearlessness”, he argues.

This should not be the only initiative. The president of the Committee on Public Security and Combating Organized Crime, Deputy Sanderson (PL-RS), promised a similar proposal, but has not yet filed it. The initiatives, however, should not prosper.

The TSE decided this Friday (30) by 5 votes to 2 to make Bolsonaro ineligible for eight years. The former president, 68, will only be able to run again in 2030, at the age of 75, thus staying away from three elections until then (one of which is the 2026 national one).
