PL aims to promote the recovery of losses from the benefit paid as a supplement to disability retirement

Manaus (AM) – Representative Adjuto Afonso (União Brasil), requested today, during a speech at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), that deputies speed up the approval of Bill 215/2024, arising from Government Message 34/2024, which readjusts the value of aid established by Law No. 1,735/1985, which complements the retirement of leprosy patients. The document meets a request authored by the parliamentarian, who since his first term in 1998 has asked the Executive to readjust the benefit.

Currently being processed by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), the PL aims to promote the recovery of losses in the benefit paid as a supplement to disability retirement, on a lifetime basis, to people mutilated or deformed as a result of the disease.

“I want to emphasize that this is very necessary, especially for people who live in municipalities like Lábrea and Eirunepé, and right here in Manaus, in the Colônia Antônio Aleixo neighborhood, who need the complement of this resource that the government provides every year, for the purchasing mainly medicines. I appeal to the deputies, to deputy Péricles, who presides over the CCJ, to vote urgently on this matter and forward it to Governor Wilson Lima for sanction, so that it can be included in the payroll in April, with a retractive value” , he explained.

Since his first term, deputy Deputy Afonso has followed the actions of the Movement for the Integration of People Affected by Leprosy (Moham) and the prejudice suffered by them.

“Unfortunately, people who live with this disease are stigmatized and discriminated against. As a parliamentarian, my priority will be to seek solutions and financial resources so that these people can cover their medical expenses and guarantee a better quality of life. It is also important to think about public policies to guarantee the inclusion of these people so that they can live with dignity in society”, he concluded.

The updated value should complement the benefit to reach the current minimum wage, R$ 1,412.00 (one thousand, four hundred and twelve reais), which came into effect on the 1st. January 2024. Beneficiaries must receive aid with amounts retroactive to those months.
