Deputy asks Tarcísio for an optional point on game days – 07/20/2023 – Panel

State deputy Thiago Auricchio (PL) sent a letter to Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) asking for the institution of an optional point on the days of the Brazilian team’s matches in the Women’s World Cup, which began this Thursday (20) in Australia and New Zealand.

Brazil debuts on Monday (24) at 8 am against Panama, returns to the field on Saturday (29), at 7 am, against France, and closes the first phase against Jamaica on August 2, Wednesday, also at 7 am.

Auricchio argues that the Government of São Paulo should adopt the same conduct as on matchdays for the men’s national team “in the name of equal treatment of women’s sport”.

In the 2022 Men’s World Cup, however, there was no optional point in São Paulo, but a reduction in the journey and, in the quarterfinals, the cancellation of the shift.

In the first phase games, then-Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) decreed that the state public offices close their working hours two hours before the first phase games, which took place at 4 pm (two of them) and at 1 pm, and that the hours not worked would be compensated by the servers until April 30, 2023.

The same decree regulated activities for Brazil and South Korea, which took place on a Monday at 4 pm. Only in the quarterfinals, between Brazil and Croatia, which took place at noon, did the Government of SP suspend work for the entire Friday, also with hours to be compensated.

The federal government has already adopted an optional point in the game schedules of the Brazilian women’s national team. Public servants will be able to be absent during game time and return to work up to two hours after the end of the match. The governments of Paraná and Pernambuco also made changes to the records.

Questioned by the Panel, the Government of SP has not yet responded whether it intends to adopt a change in the point.
