Representative Luciano Zucco (Republicanos-RS), who presided over the MST CPI in the Chamber, stated this Friday (20) that “a large group” of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) is close to Bagé (RS) “planning property invasion”. On Thursday morning (19), the arrival of around 100 families from the group was recorded on the banks of BR-293, in Hulha Negra (RS), around 380 kilometers from Porto Alegre, the state capital.

Bagé and Hulha Negra are about 30 kilometers away from each other. State deputy Rodrigo Lorenzoni (PL) said in social networkin reference to the Hulha Negra camp, which “is already in contact with the state government and police authorities so that this criminal movement is not allowed to invade private property here in RS”.

The local newspaper Minuano reported that by next Monday (23) another 500 families should arrive in the region, according to one of the coordinators of the movement in Rio Grande do Sul, Ildo Pereira. MST representatives reportedly spoke with the mayor of Hulha Negra, Renato Machado (PP), about assistance for campers such as drinking water and tarpaulins.

A People’s Gazette questioned Machado about the situation in the region, but until the publication of this article he had not received a response. The space remains open for demonstrations. In a video, released by his advisor, Zucco stated that “any event that happens to public security in Rio Grande do Sul” will be the fault of the Lula government. According to the federal deputy, the Military Brigade and the Federal Highway Police (PRF) are already on site.

In Paraná, the Military Police arrested 10 MST members this Friday in the Nova Geração Settlement, in Guarapuava, central region of the state. The police carried out arrest and search warrants for non-compliance with a court decision that prevented the blocking of PR-170, which happened on Thursday (19) in protest by the MST for the regularization of land in the region. During the action, two military police officers, who went to the location to request the opening of the road, were attacked.
