When participating in a panel focused on combating corruption during the Brazil Conference, an event organized by Brazilian students from Harvard and MIT in Cambridge in the United States this Sunday (7), former federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Novo-PR) defended the position of the owner of the social network X, the former Twitter, Elon Musk and the billionaire’s criticisms of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

This weekend, Elon Musk has made several statements critical of the restrictions imposed by the Court, especially by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, classifying them as censorship. The businessman even threatened the closure of the social network in Brazil and said he would disclose all of Moraes’ demands considered abusive in relation to X users.

Dallagnol assessed that the owner of the socuak network acted correctly in arguing that internet user accounts cannot be censored. “Ideological content that is not criminal and not illegal cannot be censored,” she declared.

For the former Lava Jato prosecutor, the practice that has occurred in Brazil is “absolutely wrong”. “This is absurd. It brings us closer to countries with a dictatorial profile, when what we want is to live in a true democracy”, he highlighted.

For Dallagnol, censorship measures represent a modern version of “cutting out people’s tongues.” “These Twitter Papers that are coming to light are revealing that there is also censorship of content through orders [judiciais] which determine moderation and discourage the dissemination of certain content that are opinions, which are not illegal and are not criminal”, he continued when evaluating the unconstitutionality of the acts.

Still during the event in the United States, Dallagnol pointed out a “growing judicial discretion” and said that an environment of fear had been established in Brazil.

This Sunday, Musk suggested that Minister Alexandre de Moraes should resign or be impeached. He also challenged the minister by promising to restore blocked X accounts.
