Deadlock at the last minute cancels former deputy’s membership in Cidadania – 03/24/2024 – Panel

The event for former federal deputy Benito Gama (BA) to join Cidadania, last Wednesday (20) in Brasília, was canceled at the last minute, causing embarrassment for the party’s main leaders, present at the event.

Gama, who has worked for several parties and is a former CPI rapporteur who led to the impeachment of Fernando Collor in 1992, took Salvador councilor Alexandre Aleluia (PL) with him to the ceremony, who announced there that he would also join.

His presence, who is the son of former federal deputy José Carlos Aleluia, surprised the party command, which ended up vetoing his entry into the party. The argument was that she had not been informed in advance.

One of the reasons for the resistance is the fact that the list of candidates for the Legislative Assembly of the capital of Bahia had already been formed, and there would be no way to fit Alexandre into it.

With the impasse, Gama also did not join. According to Cidadania leaders, another point of friction is his request to preside over the party in the state.

To the Panel, the former deputy minimizes the episode and says that his affiliation could still happen. A new meeting should take place on Tuesday (26). “There was really a communication problem in Alexandre’s case, and that’s why we suspended membership at that time, because the idea was to join the party together,” he said.

He states that it only makes sense to join Cidadania if it is to preside over the party in the state. “The invitation was for that, it’s a complete package. But we’re talking,” he said.

Gama, currently in the PP, says he does not intend to run for election in 2024, only in 2026.
