The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, and the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, will meet with the vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, this Wednesday (18), in Brasília (DF). On the agenda of the meeting, the water crisis that Amazonas is going through and the search for solutions that alleviate the impacts of the historic drought, which affects riverside communities in Manaus, now without access by rivers.
Since the worsening of the drought, Manaus City Hall has already served more than 5 thousand families around the capital with humanitarian aid.
At the beginning of this month, the vice president led a delegation of ministers in Manaus. On that occasion, Alckmin flew over the capital of Amazonas, getting to know the severe ebb up close, which at the beginning of this week reduced the level of the Rio Negro riverbed to the lowest level known since the phenomenon has been measured, in more than 100 years.
