The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) defined this Friday (11) the dates and times of the home and away games of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, main continental tournaments. The first leg matches of the quarterfinals of both continental competitions will take place from the 22nd to the 25th of August, and the second leg will be played the following week, from the 29th to the 31st of August.

Fluminense, Internacional and Palmeiras remain firm in pursuit of the Libertadores title, along with Bolívar (Bolivia), Deportivo Pereira (Colombia), Boca Junior and Racing – both from Argentina, and Olimpia (Paraguay). The teams that advance to the semifinals will receive a prize of US$ 2.3 million (the equivalent of R$ 11.3 million) granted by Conmebol.

In the case of the Copa Sudamericana, Brazil broke the record for teams in the quarterfinals, with five clubs in the dispute: América-MG, Botafogo, Corinthians, Fortaleza and São Paulo. The other teams in this phase are the Argentinean Estudiantes and Defensa y Justicia, and the Ecuadorian LDU. Only the return match between Fortaleza and América-MG continues with the location still “to be confirmed”. Initially, Conmebol mentioned Arena Castelão in the table, but the stadium will still undergo an inspection to evaluate the pitch.

The teams that qualify for the semifinals will receive a prize of US$ 800 thousand (R$ 3.9 million).
