The Barcelona court has scheduled the trial of player Daniel Alves for February, accused of raping a woman in a nightclub at the end of last year. The sentence, it was announced this Wednesday (20), will be defined after deliberation between the 5th and 7th of that month.

At the end of November, the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office requested a nine-year prison sentence for Alves, aged 40, who has been provisionally detained since January.

In the provisional conclusions document dated November 24, the Public Prosecutor’s Office also requested compensation of 150 thousand euros (R$806 thousand) for the victim, for the alleged crime of “sexual assault with penetration”.

The MP also asks for another ten years of supervised release for the athlete, after serving the given sentence, in addition to the ban on him approaching the woman who accuses him or communicating with her during the period.

The former Brazilian national team defender has been in prison since January 20, after his first statement to the investigating judge.

The incident allegedly occurred in a private room at the Sutton nightclub, in Barcelona, ​​in the early hours of December 31, 2022. Alves, who already frequented the place, would have met the young woman at the club and invited her to enter an exclusive area where he was located. a small bathroom, which she didn’t know existed.

According to the MP, the player demonstrated a “violent attitude”, attacking the woman and forcing her to have sexual intercourse, despite her resistance.

Daniel Alves initially denied knowing the young woman, then changed his version several times. He ended up admitting that he had sexual relations with her, but said it was consensual.

The Spanish court denied provisional release to the athlete on several occasions, citing, among other reasons, the risk of flight.

The case was registered when the Brazilian was on vacation in Barcelona before returning to Pumas, in Mexico, shortly after the elimination of the Brazilian team in the World Cup in Qatar.

Hours after his arrest, the Mexican club announced the termination of the player’s contract.
