Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) presented this month a request to the Senate Board for the creation of a temporary commission in the House dedicated to classifying the so-called “modern crimes”, such as digital scams, propagation of fake news and religious intolerance, to be included in the future in the Brazilian Penal Code (CPB).

To this end, it proposes the establishment of a group of 11 senators, with an equal number of alternates, responsible for presenting, in 120 days, a report to support the Bill (PLS) 236/2012, which deals with the reform of the CPB.

“Society today faces crimes that did not exist a decade ago and that need analysis, debate and a new penal approach”, she argues. The senator also warns of the consequences of Law 13,964/2019, known as the “anti-crime package”, in which several provisions of the Code were changed.
