Cruise season generates almost R$65 million in revenue for Manaus

Manaus (AM) — With the arrival of eight transatlantic ships from the “Manaus Cruise Season 2023/2024” and with 8,107 tourists and 3,835 crew members, from October 2023 to February 2024, the local economy received an injection of R$64.8 million in tourist revenue and port expenses. By the end of the season, in April this year, the value should exceed R$138 million.

The City of Manaus, through the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), has an important participation in the Cruise Season, from the reception of ships, with information and tourist itineraries.

The last ship of February, Silver Nova, will dock at the port of Manaus on the 26th of this month, with 1,284 tourists and crew, who will leave R$7 million in the local economy.

The CEO of Manauscult, Reginei Rodrigues, reinforces the effort of the City of Manaus to place the city on the route of tourist destinations, as well as on a new path for the economy.

“Since the beginning of management, investments in the tourism sector have been visible to the population. The goal is for tourism to be a new path for the economy of the capital of Amazonas and we have enormous potential for this. Our participation in the biggest fairs in the sector has brought positive results”,

According to the vice-president of Manauscult, Oreni Braga, part of the municipal administration is the promotion of the Manaus Brand in the tourist market, which has brought unprecedented results, such as the fact that the city was the only Brazilian capital to be part of from the list of the 50 best places to visit in 2024, classified in Best in Travel 2024, by Lonely Planet, a publication specializing in travel around the world. Manaus was in the top 10 of the 50 cities listed.

“Since 2022, we have been at the main tourism fairs in Brazil and published advertisements and articles about Manaus, in the main vehicles specialized in Tourism, in several languages, dialoguing with decision makers in the sale of tourist packages, with airlines and the main opinion makers in the sector”,

pointed out the vice president.

There are still seven cruise liners planned for the month of March and two in April, ending the 2023/2024 season.

With the strategy of attracting tourists from all over the world, and making tourism a driving force for the economy, Manaus City Hall, in addition to involving several departments in this mission, has already invested almost R$ 268 million in tourist environments, which will be qualifying the “Capital of the Amazon”, with new attractions.

One of the first deliveries of the current administration was the Zezinho Corrêa Beach House, in Ponta Negra, an equipment managed by the Municipal Secretariat of Labor, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (Semtepi).

Work on the Lúcia Almeida viewpoint, in the city center, a project managed by the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb), is in full swing and is part of the “ Nosso Centro ” program.

“Our Center” also has other works in this group, the unprecedented Largo de São Vicente, which is being created in the territory, with more than 2 thousand square meters; the Thiago de Mello mansion, on Bernardo Ramos street, and the tourist pier, a unique structure for Manaus, which is under construction in a shipyard in the city and will make up the Lúcia Almeida viewpoint. The pier will be a giant structure for docking small and medium-sized vessels, aimed at the tourist trade and river packages in the Center and surrounding areas.

In addition, the city hall is still working on the largest park in the capital, the Amazonino Mendes park, between the North and East zones of the city, and the Encontro das Águas Rosa Almeida park, in the Colônia Antônio Aleixo neighborhood.
