After docking at the city’s port, cruisers head to the main tourist attractions in Manaus

Manaus (AM) — Flying the Dutch flag, the Zuiderdam cruise arrived in the capital of Amazonas, on the morning of this Sunday (14), being the first to dock at the Port of Manaus this year during the 2023/2024 Cruise Season. Aboard the vessel came 2,031 tourists, 1,260 passengers and 771 crew, mostly from the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, who were welcomed by the Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur).

For the president of Amazonastur, Ian Ribeiro, the return of ships to dock makes it easier for tourists to disembark.

“The season is being a success, the ships are docking at the port again, which makes disembarking and boarding passengers much easier, and with this we believe that more passengers will disembark, more passengers will come, leaving more income resources for the entire Amazonian population”,

highlights Ribeiro.

In addition to promoting the reception with various actions to ensure convenience for tourists, Amazonastur handed over to the captain of the ship Zuiderdam a welcome sign for his first visit to the city of Manaus.

After docking at the city’s port, cruisers head to the main tourist attractions in Manaus, which was recently elected the third most visited Brazilian capital by international visitors in January 2024, according to the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), linked to the Ministry of Tourism. The ship will depart at 5pm this Sunday.

Tourist Judith Sheve from Louisville, a city in Kentucky, in the United States, said she was impressed by the grandeur and receptiveness of the Amazon.

“It’s my first time here and I’m really delighted, I only knew Rio. I like the rain, I love the wildlife, I love the animals I’ve seen so far. And all the people are so friendly. I loved it,”

she said excitedly.

Also coming on board was artist from the Dominican Republic, Elizabeth Farinho de Nunez. Alongside her husband, she said she travels around the world on pilgrimage to the Virgin of La Altagracia, patron saint of the Dominican people.

“It’s our mother’s second pilgrimage and the first time I’ve come to this beautiful country. This is my painting, I am an international artist, I do this for a health mission. Thank you very much for having us. I am very happy to be here in Amazonas”, she highlighted.

Zuiderdam is the sixth international ship of the 2023/2024 Cruise Season in Amazonas, which until April this year awaits 10 more transatlantic ships. In total, the state expects the arrival of 25 thousand tourists from all over the world, expected to generate revenue equivalent to R$3.5 million.
