CPMI rapporteur will ask Mauro Cid to break confidentiality during testimony this Tuesday

The CPMI rapporteur for the acts of January 8 in Congress, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), will ask for the breaking of banking, telephone and telematic secrecy of Mauro Cid, former assistant to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL ), who will testify this Tuesday morning (11), at 9am.

The request is due to the small amount of information that the commission is managing to access, such as just some of the messages found on Cid’s cell phone seized by the Federal Police in May, during Operation Venire.

According to the senator, the CPMI is having difficulty making progress in collecting information in some of the investigations involving the former aide-de-camp, mainly in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which “is still taking steps”, she said.

For her, both the information on the cell phone that has not yet been shared and the emails, which the commission also wants to have access to, should help advance the investigations.

“We are also an inquiry, we can also directly break secrecy. Today we are going to present a series of requirements”, he said in an interview with GloboNews.

Voting on the requirements should take place right at the beginning of the CPMI session that will take Mauro Cid’s testimony. The senator claims that the military must provide the necessary information to the commission that “does not incriminate him”, since he has the constitutional right to remain silent on some questions – the defense even obtained a habeas corpus that guarantees this.

Eliziane Gama claims that this is the most awaited testimony from the CPMI, and that it may not just be the first from the military to the commission. Also not ruled out is the summoning of his family members who “eventually” have committed a crime.

“His position was strategic, his actions were strategic actions. Now, they were not strategic actions for error, they should not be to circumvent any type of legal norm that we have today in Brazil ”, he says referring to what was the object of the PF action, of alleged insertion of false vaccination data against Covid -19 in the former president’s wallet, payment of bills with cash, among others.

The senator stated that the commission wants to understand what his “autonomy” was like in carrying out the work to which he was assigned and following orders from the former president.

In addition to Mauro Cid, who may be recalled depending on what is reported today, the CPMI will summon the former Minister and former Secretary of Public Security for the Federal District, Anderson Torres, responsible for the security plan on January 8th. Torres has already been heard by the PF on the subject and has been in provisional freedom since mid-May.
