Cpers does act to expand readjustment; government says it complies with federal law

While teachers and civil servants walked through the center of the capital towards the Legislative Assembly, the leadership of the Cpers union visited deputies’ offices to present a document with 25 arguments in favor of the readjustment demanded by the category. The mobilization took place this Tuesday morning (7th) and began after the union rejected the government’s proposal that provided for a wage adjustment lower than that demanded by the category.

Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) filed a proposal on March 1 that indicated a readjustment of 9.4595% for all levels of teaching. However, Cpers decided to reject the proposal and went on to claim a 14.95% readjustment – following the example of the salary replacement of the national teaching floor, announced by the federal government.

Cpers alleges that, with resources from the Basic Education Maintenance and Development Fund (Fundeb) and Salary-Education, there is a sum of more than R$ 900 million that could be used to ensure the increase.

The union has defined a mobilization agenda that will take place until the date of voting on the project, which is being processed on an urgent basis. Deputies Adão Pretto (PT), Leonel Radde (PT), Luciana Genro (PSOL), Matheus Gomes (PSOL), Miguel Rosseto (PT) and Sofia Cavedon (PT) were present when the act was already heading towards the end and spoke in defense of the readjustment proposed by the category.

The president of Cpers, Helenir Schürer, said that the demands made to the deputies are being well received. “We are going through the offices and presenting a survey by Dieese (Inter-union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies) showing that it is feasible to pay 14.95%.”

The State government reported that the national floor update is defined by a value in reais, not by a percentage. For this year, as determined by the Ministry of Education, the national floor is now R$ 4,420.55.

As in 2022 it was R$ 3,845.63, the increase was 14.95%. It turns out that RS had been paying an amount above the national floor of 2022: R$ 4,038.54. Thus, says the government, last year the initial amount paid to teachers in Rio Grande do Sul was 5% above what the law determined. Therefore, the project to readjust by 9.459% the floor paid to teachers in Rio Grande do Sul, the government complies with what determines the federal law, justifies the State Executive.
