The Corregedoria of the Chamber of Councilors of São Paulo defined, this Thursday (24), that councilors Cris Monteiro (Novo) and Janaína Lima (MDB) should receive only one warning.
Cris filed a police report after a fight in the Casa’s bathroom in November 2021. The two began arguing in plenary and went to the bathroom. Cris told the police that Janaína had tried to hang her.
In a note after this Thursday’s decision, Cris says he respects the regiment and agrees with the decision.
Both were affiliated with Novo, but Janaína was expelled after the incident. At the time, Janaína said that she also registered a police report against her colleague and that she acted in self-defense.
In December last year, Internal Affairs had already defined that both would be suspended for 60 days. But they didn’t get to serve the sentence.
“This process had already been visited a few times by the Corregedoria, including with partial fulfillment of the suspension sentence. However, with appeals and debates, it ended up dragging on. The peaceful decision the matter”, said Rubinho Nunes (União Brasil), president of the Corregedoria .
