Parliamentarians asked for clarification on the interruption in the distribution of water in Manaus
Manaus (AM) — On the morning of this Thursday (03), the mayor of Manaus (CMM), councilor Caio André (Podemos), and councilors who are part of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of Águas de Manaus received the CEO of water concessionaire, Diego Dal Magro; and the director-president of the Regulatory Agency for Delegated Public Services of the Municipality of Manaus (Ageman), Elson Andrade.
The representatives complied with the CMM’s request and were at the Legislative House for a clarification meeting on the water shortage that affected several neighborhoods in Manaus in the last week.
“This meeting is very important to address, in addition to solving the problem of water shortages, compliance with the Management Adjustment Term (TAG), which was a historic achievement obtained thanks to the work of the CPI”
explained Caio André.
The councilors also requested that information campaigns be carried out by the concessionaire, to explain how the discounts to the population, signed in the TAG, will work. The CMM will also receive demands from the population, which will be forwarded to the concessionaire, which has undertaken to study and remedy the problems within a quick time, according to each case.
Visit to Ponta do Ismael
After the meeting at the CMM building, the delegation headed to the Ponta do Ismael Water Production Complex. The purpose of the visit was to check, up close, the water distribution work and listen to the concessionaire’s explanation about the problems that caused the interruption in the distribution.
“This communication between CMM and Águas de Manaus now exists and this comes thanks to the CPI. We are here ‘in loco’ to find out the reason for the lack of water supply in Manaus and how the company is solving it. We made that visit and found that it was a fortuitous event and that the company proved to us today. We will continue to monitor”
said councilor Diego Afonso.
According to Águas de Manaus, the shortage was due to a failure in the supply of electricity for pumping machines, which led to a bump in the system and, as a result, there was a rupture of the pipe in the water treatment complex.
“Because we have such large machines here, even with the immediate repair, the return of supply took up to 72 hours in some regions of the city”
highlighted Diego Dal Magro, CEO of Águas de Manaus.
“Since the beginning of the company’s work, we have been involved in this rupture of pipes. We are talking about water supply service, everything is very voluminous and, therefore, the hours were precise for the supply to be normalized again”
pointed out Elson Andrade, CEO of Ageman.
