The Board of Petrobras unanimously approved this Thursday (26th) the nomination of former Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN) to assume the presidency of the state-owned company. With the approval, Prates temporarily assumes the position until the holding of Petrobras’ shareholders’ meeting, which should take place in April, to confirm his nomination once and for all.

Yesterday Prates resigned from his mandate in Congress to assume the presidency of the company. The resignation – which took place five days before the end of the legislative term – was necessary for him to occupy the position in the state-owned company. On January 13, the oil company announced that it received a letter from the Ministry of Mines and Energy confirming the nomination of the now former senator to hold the positions of president and member of the Board of Directors of Petrobras. Prates, appointed by Lula (PT), was one of the coordinators of the technical group for Mines and Energy during the transitional government.
