Corpus Christi: banks close on Thursday and open on Friday – 02/06/2023 – Market

Banks will be closed next Thursday (8) due to Corpus Christi Day, which is not a national holiday. In-person service to the public will resume on Friday (9), at normal time.

The functioning of the banks was disclosed by Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks) this Friday (2) and the return of service on Friday occurs precisely because Corpus Christi is not a national holiday. The enactment of the holiday depends on each state or city.

With bank branches closed, customers must carry out their operations via internet banking or applications. It is also possible to use the ATMs, but it is necessary to check the opening hours of the banks’ self-service rooms.

According to the federation, consumption bills such as water, telephone, electricity and others, and bills due on June 8, can be paid, without penalty, on the following day.

“Usually, the tributes already come with dates adjusted to the calendar of national, state and municipal holidays”, explains Walter Faria, Deputy Director of Services at Febraban.

If the document has not been adjusted, the recommendation is that the customer anticipate payment or schedule it through ATMs, internet banking or apps.

The celebration of Corpus Christi, which this year will be on June 8, is not a national holiday, but part of the cities usually declare a holiday. The Friday after the date is considered a normal working day.

Last week, the federal government announced an optional point for federal employees on June 9. In states and municipalities, each location can also enact the same measure for servers.
