Corporal investigated for embezzlement of Army weapons presents certificate

One of the seven soldiers being investigated for the disappearance of 21 weapons from the Army War Arsenal in Barueri, in Greater São Paulo, he delivered a medical certificate requesting removal from his duties on Friday night (27).

The document states that the corporal was undergoing psychiatric treatment and needed to leave the barracks. The information was published by G1 and the TV Globo this Saturday (28). The soldier is investigated after suspicions of using the official car of the then director of War Arsenal to transport the 21 machine guns stolen from the weapons warehouse.

He was the personal driver of the lieutenant colonel who headed the sector, Rivelino Barata de Sousa Batista. The lieutenant colonel is not investigated, but was relieved of duty.

According to the G1, the soldier had not appeared at the barracks since Thursday. Upon presentation of the document, he must be out of service for a few days. It has not been confirmed how long he will remain out.

The weapons disappeared during the Independence holiday in September, but the case only became known on October 10, when the weapons were recounted. Of those investigated, six had requests for preventive detention taken to the Military Court, but so far there has been no court order.
