Corinthians and Ferroviária will make the grand final of the 2023 Brazilian Women’s Championship. The title will be decided in two games, scheduled for Thursday (7) and Sunday (10).

The two finalists were defined this Saturday (2), with the return matches of the semifinals. The Corinthian team beat Santos 2-0, at Parque São Jorge, while the team from Araraquara passed on penalties after losing to São Paulo, by the same score, at Fonte Luminosa.

Greatest champion of the modality, Corinthians fights for the fifth national trophy and the fourth consecutive championship. The two-time champion Ferroviária, on the other hand, is looking for its third cup to shorten this distance and isolate itself even more as the second most winning team in the competition.

At a disadvantage after the 3-1 defeat at home in the first leg, São Paulo managed to draw the confrontation with Ferroviária away from home, opening 2-0 in the first half.

Ariel opened the scoring with a header in the 36th minute. Micaelly extended the free-kick, at 42, in a cross beat to the area that passed by everyone and deceived goalkeeper Luciana by bouncing on the lawn.

With the tie on the aggregate score, the vacancy was decided on penalties. After the failure in normal time, goalkeeper Luciana had the post in Cacau’s charge and defended the beats of Pardal and Ariel to guarantee the victory of the Araraquara team by 3 to 1.

Corinthians, in turn, did not have any scares to eliminate Santos and advanced to the final with an aggregate score of 5 to 0 — in the first leg, the team from the capital had already triumphed by 3 to 0 in Vila Belmiro.

Still under the command of coach Arthur Elias, announced on Friday (1st) as a substitute for the Swedish Pia Sundhage in the women’s national team, Corinthians received their rival at Parque São Jorge this Saturday and won by 2-0.

The first goal was scored in the 18th minute of the second half, by Duda Sampaio, in a penalty kick signaled with the help of VAR (assistant video referee), after Bruna Menezes’ hand touch.

Fernandinha decreed the final result in the 43rd minute, receiving a low cross in the area and finishing first.

Responsible for the alvinegro club’s four national titles, Arthur Elias will accumulate the two positions until the end of the Copa Libertadores, to be played between October 5th and 21st.
