Malta, a member of the European Union since 2004, stands out for its tradition in the investment area as a financial hub

Manaus (AM) — The superintendent of Suframa, Bosco Saraiva, received, this Wednesday (24), a visit from the honorary consul of the Republic of Malta in Recife, Thales Castro, at the headquarters of the Authority. The meeting focused on identifying economic opportunities in the Amazon region, especially in the Manaus Free Trade Zone.

Malta, a member of the European Union since 2004, stands out for its tradition in the investment area as a financial hub. The consul highlighted the presence of investment funds, green and decarbonization funds, both inside and outside the European Union, highlighting the need for strategic alignment to explore economic opportunities.

Castro reported on a ministerial meeting in Malta between the 6th and 9th of February, where a panel on Brazil will be discussed, focusing on geoeconomic opportunities and investments.

“The ambassador (John Aquilina) highly regards the Amazon region and asked me for a presentation, in which I would like to include the Manaus Free Trade Zone, so that we can take, present, provoke and be provoked”,

highlighted, also informing that Aquilina is studying a visit to the State of Amazonas in mid-2024.

During the meeting, Suframa technicians Arthur Lisboa, Marcelo Pereira and Adamilton Mourão, presented the consul with the main information about the Manaus Free Trade Zone and Suframa’s operations in the states covered by it — Amazonas, Acre, Roraima, Rondônia and Amapá.

Superintendent Bosco Saraiva emphasized the importance of the action for the Manaus Free Trade Zone project, highlighting that keeping the Amazon forest standing is one of the successes throughout the project’s 56 years of existence.

“In addition to being economically important for an entire region, logistically and economically disadvantaged in relation to the rest of Brazil, the Manaus Free Zone brought this positive externality of maintaining the forest and we reaffirm Suframa’s ongoing commitment in this aspect”,

he stated.
