The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, embarks this Monday (22) for Belgium on a five-day trip through the country’s main ports. The mission was organized by private Brazilian port terminals interested in convincing him to withdraw the privatization of the port of Santos (SP) from the berth.

França suspended the process as soon as he took office until the government better assesses the path to be adopted to attract investment to the São Paulo port, the largest in Latin America.

The trip was organized by the Association of Private Port Terminals (ATP), which brings together 31 large companies, 61 private ports, responsible for handling 60% of Brazilian port cargo.

The idea is to show the minister the management standard of Belgian ports, which have management flexibility similar to that of a private port.

Among them are the ports of Antwerp (one of the largest in Europe), Ghent (one of the largest river ports on the continent), Zeebrugges (important transport and logistics center for cargo).

The entourage has 39 members. The director general, Eduardo Nery, and the directors Alber Furtado, Caio César Farias Leôncio and Wilson Lima will be part of Antaq (National Water Transport Agency).

Representatives of 16 companies associated with the entity also make up the group. They are: Abdalla Advogados, ArcelorMittal, Cargill, Porto Cotegipe, Deme Goup, DPWorld, Ferroport, Porto Imetame, Porto Itapoá, Jan de Nul, Petrobras, Porto do Açu, Portonove, Porto Sudeste, Suzano, TGPM, Transpetro, Vale and VLI .
