The Human Rights Commission of the Chamber of Deputies asked the Public Security Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro for information about the cases filed by delegates Giniton Lages and Rivaldo Barbosa, implicated in the deaths of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes.

President of the collegiate, federal deputy Daiana Santos (PCdoB-RS) states that the request seeks to analyze the unarchiving of these processes.

She says that the request was made considering the possibility that the delegates had “acted intentionally, committed malfeasance, or carried out a precarious and slow investigation, as well as decided to dismiss cases of homicides in their areas of activity.”

According to investigations, Lages is suspected of obstructing the investigation into the death of the councilor and the driver. Barbosa would have helped the brothers Domingos and Chiquinho Brazão to plan the murders.

The commission requested copies of the police investigations carried out by both men, established to investigate homicides in their districts, in addition to copies of the respective psychological autopsy reports issued during these periods.

“This request is essential to ensure transparency and accountability in the investigation process of other crimes. It is the duty of the Commission on Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality to ensure integrity and justice in cases that directly impact the lives and safety of citizens”, says the deputy.
