The National Integration and Regional Development Commission of the Chamber of Deputies canceled the debate it was due to hold this Tuesday (6) on issues related to the Amazon Factor and the equity of public investments. The commission has not yet set a new date to discuss the matter.
The debate was requested by the deputy Professor Goreth (PDT-AP). She explains that the term “Fator Amazônico” or “Amazon Cost” is used to refer to the additional costs of logistics and transport that companies and governments have to bear to carry out commercial, infrastructure or service operations in the Amazon region of Brazil.
“These costs are influenced by the complexity of the Amazon region, which has a vast territorial extension and an environment of difficult access, with vast areas covered by forest, rivers and precarious roads.“, he says.
Professor Goreth adds that in the Amazon the conventional way of carrying out projects and services does not work. She exemplifies that transport is done predominantly by rivers and depends on the tide. Even schools need to adapt class schedules to the high tide.
“There are students, for example, who spend more than two hours a day navigating the Amazonian rivers to get to school and when they arrive at their destination they don’t even find reinforced food, because due to the cost, most of the time (if not all) quality is crucified”it says.
“It is extremely important for this Commission to debate the equity of public investments, that is, the fair and equitable distribution of resources for investments in different regions and to promote a more balanced and inclusive development”defends.
