Commission approves public hearing on IACHR rigging

After Gazeta do Povo denounced serious compromises in the independence and impartiality of the most important body for the defense of human rights in America — the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) —, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and National Defense (CREDN) approved this Tuesday (2) the request to hold a public hearing on the subject.
The action was requested by Congresswoman Carol de Toni (PL-SC) and will open space to discuss the ideological apparatus of the institution through facts that show the political use of the IACHR and prioritization of agendas sponsored by left-wing entities. Complaints are serious and may constitute violations of international agreements and treaties that govern these organizations and require them to be independent and impartial.
One of them is the American Convention on Human Rights, approved by Legislative Decree 27/1992, which deals with the explicit protection of babies “from the moment of conception”. Even so, in recent years, the IACHR has acted openly to expand the practice of abortion.
Other requests that the body has made to member countries also draw attention. In the report produced in 2021 on Brazil, for example, the commission recommends the establishment of “a coordinated fiscal policy that can contribute to the redistribution of wealth”, “an inclusive education with a diverse gender perspective”, the defense of “measures alternatives to deprivation of liberty” and a drug policy without “repressive and criminalizing treatments.”
According to the office of Deputy Carol de Toni (PL-SC), the date for the public hearing that will deal with these matters has not yet been defined, but should already be announced in the coming days.
