CNJ standard establishes 50% of internal vacancies for women

At least 50% of internal vacancies at the National Council of Justice must be allocated preferentially to women, according to an internal rule published this Monday (11). The information was released by CNN Brasil.
The CNJ’s decision expands female participation in the selection of assistant judges, positions of trust, advisory services, composition of commissions, working groups and even in the hiring of outsourced workers.
According to the standard, the CNJ establishes the “equal participation of men and women”, that is, to the same extent, “whenever possible”, with a view to racial, ethnic and sexual diversity.
The new rule was included in the CNJ’s Internal Regulations, and the equitable composition also includes cisgender, transgender and fluid people.
The CNJ has been increasing female participation in the judiciary, since the approval of a new rule to equalize the number of male and female judges in second instance courts across the country. The changes come into effect in January 2024, and the first vacancy opened must be filled by a magistrate of a different gender from the last one promoted. The rule will be maintained until each court reaches a gender ratio of between 40% and 60%.
