Manaus (AM) – In celebration of International Women’s Day, councilors from the Manaus City Council (CMM) honored representatives from various segments with the Citizen Woman Award, this Thursday (7). The award recognizes and values the work, life story and contribution of female figures to society.

The award was established in 2021, through Law No. 2,797, authored by councilor Professor Samuel Monteiro.

“It is with great pride that we give this appreciation to the Citizen Woman. We know that women are increasingly conquering their space. And we must value these strong and fierce women, who have always stood out for the actions and work carried out for society, whether in any of the occupations they hold: in public positions, as entrepreneurs, in the classroom, at home. Today, we have women who are occupying major political positions. This award recognizes the work carried out by women, highlighting the greatness and importance they have for society”,

emphasized councilor Professor Samuel.

One of the day’s honorees was the journalist and employee of the State Secretariat of Finance of Amazonas (Sefaz), Shirley Assis.

“When I entered the job market, both in the newsroom and in the Finance Department, at the end of the 80s, their presence was reduced. Over the years, women have occupied more spaces, but it is worth highlighting that management positions are still predominantly occupied by men. This award gives visibility to the achievements of each of these women present here, encouraging the new generation to follow in the footsteps of these victors and reducing the prejudice and distrust that still exists regarding their potential”,

highlighted the journalist.

The journalist stressed that the rise of women does not represent a gender war, but the possibility of establishing an egalitarian society through meritocracy. “This award shows that women are growing intellectually, seeking to specialize to occupy prominent positions when they have opportunities. It is not a question of competing, but of working together with men for the benefit of society. After all, we are in the same boat together”, she pointed out.

Journalists Cynthia Blink and Anny Margareth, owner of the website Radar Amazônico, as well as Michele Moraes, producer and presenter of the program Agro Amazonas, featured on TV Brasil’s national schedule, received the award.

“It is a way of valuing the work of women producers who work in the field and who make a difference by producing quality audiovisual content, generating income for their families”,

reported Michele Moraes.

Another person honored by the councilors was the coordinator of federal programs and projects at the Department of Education and Sports of Amazonas (Seduc), sociologist and doctor in Sociology Vera Lúcia Barreto.

“I think that this recognition is the result of the work we develop on the Tax Education agenda with students and teachers. Since 2019, we have been working in partnership with Sefaz and other institutions. In meetings and group dynamics, we promote discussions about the relevance of taxation and the social function of taxes. Women are essential in this dissemination of knowledge because they are present in all layers of the population, especially leading homes where they transmit values to their children”,

Vera said.

Women who fought personal battles against serious illnesses also received the award. “We are present because we beat cancer. We are blessed by God to be here thanking life. This tribute shows that we are not alone. I consider this tribute a way of valuing our efforts, giving us strength to continue fighting”, said housewife Livete Brito da Silva.
