Sustainability was the main subject of the meeting between the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, and the president of Novo Banco of the BRICS, Dilma Rouseff, in Brasília, this Sunday, 20. The agenda made it possible to present the proposal for a new line of financing for the bank to invest in sustainable forest management projects, in addition to credits for development programs in Amapá.
Organized by the leader of the Federal Government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, the meeting generated reflections on the paths that can lead to the economic development of the Amazon.
“The whole world discusses the Amazon, and it is important that they discuss it, but we want them to listen to us, to see the human lives that live there. Those of us who live in the Amazon know the main problems and know how to point out solutions. We want a state with its forest respected and preserved, but also a rich state, with people living with dignity, and for that we need to deal better with our standing forest, thinking about alternatives to generate economic and social development”declared the governor.
The BRICS New Development Bank (NBD) is a financial institution founded in 2014 with the mission of promoting sustainable development, reducing economic inequalities and strengthening cooperation between emerging economies. There are 8 member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh.
Currently, the Bank only finances reforestation projects in states that have already deforested the environment, but it does not have financing for environmental management in preserved states, which is the case of Amapá. The idea of creating this line is precisely to ensure that projects involving the sustainable management of forests receive financial support.
For the Government of Amapá, the opening of this credit line is essential for the preservation of biodiversity, climate regulation and socioeconomic prosperity.
The secretaries of Commerce and Foreign Affairs of Amapá, Lucas Abrahao; the Representative of the Government of Amapá in Brasilia, Aziel Araújo, and Welinton Conci, partner of TW Forest, a company that operates in the municipality of Mazagao with sustainable forest management.
