The Brasil Sem Aborto (BSM) movement released this Friday (20) an official note of repudiation of two acts by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) pointed out by the movement as facilitating abortion in the country.

The first is the repeal, on the 16th, of an ordinance that determined that doctors send information to police authorities in cases of abortion resulting from rape. With the repeal, it is again more difficult for crimes of rape to be investigated and punished. At the same time, it is easier for abortion to be practiced in cases not permitted by law under false allegations of rape.

According to the movement, with the measure “it is clear the intention of facilitating the performance of abortion in case of rape, without ‘bureaucracy’, even if violence against women goes unpunished”.

The other act questioned in the note is Brazil’s withdrawal from the international agreement of the Geneva Consensus, in which the signatory countries are committed to defending life from conception, women’s health, strengthening the family and the sovereignty of each nation. in global politics. The country’s withdrawal from the agreement, in which Brazil has participated since October 2020, was announced on Tuesday (17).

“With this gesture, the government clearly demonstrates its intention to ignore the thinking of the vast majority of the Brazilian population, which is against abortion and in favor of life in all its stages of development”, says an excerpt from the note.

The movement also highlights that the government’s recent decisions on abortion represent “a contradiction with the campaign promises of then-candidate Lula”. During the electoral campaign, the president stated several times that he was against the facilitation of the procedure in the country.
