Ciro Nogueira says that PP is off the base, but will not prevent accessions to the government

The national president of the PP, Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), says that the party will not ally itself with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) even with his co-religionist, Arthur Lira (AL), showing signs that he can join the governing base. The parliamentarian, however, stated that he will not prevent party members from being appointed ministers in the name of governance.

“I give my word that the PP will not go to government. I’m not a guy who doesn’t think there’s a part of my party that wants to go to government. Mainly people from the Northeast. And I have all the respect for Lira ”, he said in an interview with Valor Econômico newspaper this Thursday (13).

According to the senator, the accession of members of the PP to the government will only be on the part of the Chamber, but that it is he who commands the party. Ciro also criticized the way in which Lira “commands the Chamber, I was very withdrawn so as not to disauthorize him”.

Although Lira has held talks with the government, confirmed by Minister Alexandre Padilha, for Institutional Relations, Ciro Nogueira says that he has not participated in any negotiations, and that he has not even agreed to talk to Lula.

“I’m not even going to talk to him until the end of the government. They cannot put these indications on my account”, he said, adding that he has a relationship with Lula that goes beyond politics, but that he would not go to the government so as not to “hurt President Bolsonaro in a way”.

“I adore President Bolsonaro, he was right with me. I think he’s the most well-intentioned public man I’ve ever known. It borders on naivety. I will not do this, ”he said.

Ciro Nogueira was Bolsonaro’s Chief of Staff and supported the former president until the end of the government.

Ciro Nogueira stressed that he will be in opposition to Lula “until the end”, contradicting people who doubted that the PP would change sides during the term of office. He also said that the opposition candidate for the presidential succession should be Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), from São Paulo, and that the former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, would be a “much better” vice-president, although already has said he does not intend to run for office.

“Presidential election, the guy has to go to debate and I don’t know if she’s prepared. She [Michelle] it’s growing a lot. In communication she is better than Tarcísio, Tereza [Cristina] It is [Romeu] Zema. Now, I don’t know if people will see in her the ability to manage the country as they see in Tarcísio ”, she added.
