Cid audio leak influences public debate on social media – 03/25/2024 – Forwarded Frequently

Since February 7, 2024, mentions of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid have remained high in public WhatsApp and Telegram groups analyzed by Palver.

Last Friday (22), the measurement reached the highest level since the measurement was carried out. The arrest of Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) former aide-de-camp moved not only political groups, but was dominant in posts on TikTok, Reddit and also news portals.

The movement on the networks regarding the topic began to grow on Thursday (21), due to the leak of the recording in which Mauro Cid makes comments about his accusation.

Videos, images, audio and messages about the leak flooded messaging groups. Furthermore, many YouTube links in which authors react to Cid’s comments, small news portals and links to other social networks were circulated with great intensity.

On February 11, a message began circulating in groups pointing out that Veja magazine had leaked excerpts from Mauro Cid’s plea in which he tried to “free” Jair Bolsonaro. The same message ends with the question: “Is Mauro Cid going to lose his plea bargain!?” In one of the groups where the message was sent, a user reacts ironically: “See, it’s driving you crazy.”

After the audio leak, a video that was widely circulated in the groups features federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) showing and reacting to Mauro Cid’s speeches.

The deputy says that the lieutenant colonel is suffering psychological torture and ends with criticism of what he calls the “system” and that Cid was being pressured to help “condemn people who would already be condemned in their heads”, concluded the parliamentarian.

The terms “torture”, “dictatorship” and “Gestapo” were closely associated with comments on Cid’s audios. Some of the messages contained content questioning the credibility of the accusation, and that the lieutenant colonel was “put on the spot” so that he could confess “what didn’t happen”.

One of the users used the expression “they will not pass” when criticizing the “torture by the PF to frame Bolsonaro”.

In one of the audios, Mauro Cid complains that he was the only one harmed in the investigations, and that even Bolsonaro would have benefited, since he received millions of Pix, and, therefore, “he is a millionaire” and that the exposure would help him electorally. In reaction to this excerpt, users reacted by asking for the lieutenant colonel’s Pix, so that they could also help him.

Another very common reaction in the groups was the request for military intervention. One of the messages urged the group’s members to go to the barracks again and demand Mauro Cid’s release. Another published text provoked the military saying “attention army colonels, one of yours is inside” and questioned how long “this mess would be allowed in Brazil”.

Pastor Silas Malafaia recorded a video, which was also circulated in the groups, in which he points out the “very serious” moment in Brazil and accuses minister Alexandre de Moraes of being a “dictator in the toga”.

On Friday (22), after Cid’s arrest, the messages were even more scathing in their criticism of Moraes. One of the images sent features the presenter Tiago Pavinatto quoted in quotation marks “Either Brazil arrests Moraes or Moraes arrests Brazil”.

In left-wing groups, which reacted little to Cid’s audios on Thursday (21), the messages began to circulate more strongly after his arrest on Friday (22).

Some users provided explanations as to why the lieutenant colonel was arrested. Many messages pointed out Cid’s double game, and there were also those who mocked the soldier’s fainting spell after learning that he would return to prison.
