After passing through five states, the Amazonian troupe takes “Cabelos Arrepiados” to the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in the federal capital

It’s not long before the story of five insomniac children who had their dreams ‘stolen’ invade the stages of the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Brasília (CCBB Brasília). Produced by the Amazonian company Buia Teatro, the operetta entitled “Cabelos Arrepiados” will be presented from this Thursday (13th) until July 30th at the space in Brasilia.

It is the first time that a children’s show created by an independent collective from the North of the country arrives at the Cultural Center, inaugurated on October 12, 2000, after a major renovation to adapt the Presidente Tancredo Neves Building.

“This is very rewarding, because it means that our work is contributing to increasing the visibility and recognition of artists in our region”,

points out the cultural producer Tércio Silva, director of the show and founder of Cia Buia Teatro, alongside the actress, costume designer and visual artist Maria Hagge, who plays the little Cora, Clara and Flora and also signs the costumes for the operetta, inspired by the aesthetics of the characters from Monster High and Tim Burton’s work.

The show

It has a libretto by the Rio de Janeiro playwright Karen Acioly, a reference in theater for children – it arrives in the federal capital as one of the selected in the CCBB Sponsorship Notice 2023/2025. “Banco do Brasil is a great promoter of Brazilian culture, because it is aware of the transformative role of art. The financial institution insists on allocating significant amounts to support cultural projects. We are very honored to have Banco do Brasil sponsoring this very special project of our company and giving even more visibility to the talents of our land”, emphasizes Tércio.

In the story, children are deprived of sleep and face the fears generated by bad thoughts, while reflecting on friendship, brotherly unity, dialogue with parents and the dangers of environmental destruction and unbridled consumption.

A magical theatrical experience, “Cabelos Arrepiados” mixes fantasy, real and hypothetical dangers, humor and unusual solutions, understanding the experiences of children in contemporary society. “With her empathy and sensitivity in listening, the talented Karen Acioly created a text that recognizes the anguish of urban children, who are increasingly connected and with inappropriate night habits”,

points out Tertius.

The actors convey this message successfully. In addition to Maria Hagge, the cast is formed by Magda Loiana (who plays Flora, one of the five children), Dimas Mendonça (who plays the role of little Ciro) and Roque Baroque and Gustavo Gutemberg, who play the guardians of dreams Juca and Chico , respectively (two mischievous protagonists inspired by the characters created by the German writer Wilhelm Busch in 1985). Throughout the operetta, they manipulate the puppet Tico, which is popular with the public.

To further embellish the setting, the scenography features a revolving stage, inspired by the universe of pataphysics (the science of imaginary solutions) by Alfred Jerry. Animated shapes, created by artists Cleyton Diir and Dante, also enhance the oneiric atmosphere of dreams.

New Audiences

Staged since 2021, the show created by the company Buia Teatro has already circulated through five Brazilian states and was seen by more than 20,000 people, expanding the audience of the Amazonian troupe and guaranteeing important nominations and awards.

Last year, “Cabelos Arrepiados” received nominations for Best Children’s Show by the Theater Award of the Association of Producers of Rio de Janeiro (APTR) and Best Show of the year in the Best of the Year award Garimpo Cultural (Amazonas). In addition, it was nominated in eight categories at the 21st edition of the Cenym National Theater Award (one of the biggest theater awards in Brazil) and won in the categories Best Theater Group and Best Soundtrack – signed by Jefferson Mariano.

The operetta also won awards for best costumes and best original soundtrack at the National Theater Festival in Varginha (MG); best musical show at the Online Theater Festival in Real Time in Rio de Janeiro; and best show at the BcemCena International Theater Festival, in Santa Catarina.
