Christmas and New Year: see how banks will work – 12/20/2023 – Market

Banks across the country will be closed during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Customers will have to use the ATM or financial institutions’ apps if they have to make payments or other transactions.

According to Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), branches will not be open on December 25th and 29th and January 1st. On weekends, as usual, there will also be no business hours — Saturdays and Sundays are not considered business days for banking operations, according to the sector’s resolution.

The last day of in-person service will be on Thursday (28) of next week. The branches will open between the 26th and 28th of December and from the 2nd of January.

By law, on holidays, consumer bills have the date extended to the next business day, without charges being charged. Payment slips or telephone bills, for example, that are due on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day may be paid on the business day following the holidays.

According to Febraban, these types of accounts usually have an expiration date adjusted to the holiday calendar, whether federal, state or municipal.

Some taxes, however, may have a deadline for payment in advance. It is necessary to pay attention to the due date of each account.

Febraban also states that customers will be able to schedule payments for utility bills or pay them at their own ATMs, if they have a barcode.

The customer can access their current or savings account through their bank’s mobile phone applications and via internet banking to perform various services. Among them are:

• Checking balances and statements
• Financial transfers
• Payment scheduling
• Pix: creating keys, bill payments, purchases and statements
• Contracting services and loans
• Cards: request and consult a credit card statement
• Credit limit
• Real estate credit
• Proof of bank transactions
