Cupping therapy works to release toxins, promoting relaxation and improving blood circulation

The RespirAR Program has used cupping therapy to treat patients’ chronic muscle and joint pain. Coordinated by the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), this ancient technique plays a fundamental role in the rehabilitation process in various pathologies.

“The Government of Amazonas has provided specific treatments so that RespirAR patients have a better quality of life. Cupping is another resource that complements physiotherapy services, and which is strengthening the health of the population of Amazonas”,

commented Jorge Oliveira, secretary of Sedel.

The ancient practice of traditional Chinese medicine provides well-being and pain relief through suction on the skin, creating a relaxing action and promoting blood circulation in affected areas.

“The benefits of cupping are effective for various types of pain. The biggest cases we have received in recent months at the RespirAR center in Aparecida are low back pain, gonarthrosis and bursitis, where in the first weeks of treatment the results are evident”,

commented RespirAR physiotherapist, Fernanda Barreto.

Retired Waldeilda Ferreira, a RespirAR patient at the Aparecida Community Center, arrived at the program with severe knee pain. After 10 sessions of physiotherapeutic treatment using suction cups, she reports improvements and progress.

The pain I felt in my knee prevented me from sleeping and the cupping treatment was essential for my recovery. Now, I’m even going to be referred to participate in physical activities”, commented Waldeilda Ferreira.

Physiotherapist Fernanda Barreto reinforces that for each patient, the rehabilitation process is evaluated according to their comorbidity.

“According to the imaging exams that patients bring, we carry out a physiotherapeutic assessment, and an orthopedic form, to then treat the case and assess whether the suction cup is needed. But most of the cases we receive need it and our work is always thinking about the patient’s quality of life”he highlighted.
