With a speech focused on health guarantees, protection of families and greater administrative organization, a woman has emerged as a favorite in the elections for the board of Coogal, Cooperativa Garimpeira do Lourenço, in Calçoene, about 500 kilometers from Macapá. A second-generation prospector, a prospector’s wife, Dalva Bastos, known as Dalvinha, allied with other local leaders to form Chapa 1.
The elections are scheduled for next Sunday, the 12th, bringing together an electoral college of 770 voters, all members of Coogal and active in the market. The discovery of gold in Lourenço dates back to 1894 and was even responsible for the international dispute over the domain of its lands, the Contestado of Brazil and France.
The cooperative emerged in 1995, after the closure of the activities of the mining company Novo Astro. Since then, with many difficulties and fatal accidents, the workers have been working in the almost rudimentary extraction of the ore. “And that is what the new board is proposing to do, a professional, organized administration that looks out for our cooperative members, their families and also improves productivity”says the candidate.
For this, Dalvinha, who is running for president, Edilson Ferreira and Josevam Araújo, the Baby, are proposing investments in machinery and greater autonomy and safety in operations. The rental of a backhoe for collective use by the cooperative members to improve their activities at an affordable price, the search and renovation of the research area with the aim of requesting more areas for concession to the cooperative members, in addition to the creation of a fund through the 2% (two percent) for social assistance, are some of the work proposals.
The ticket also defends the creation of a support house for cooperative members, to receive, house and direct members who travel to the capital for health treatment, as well as immediately start pumping the external area of the underground mine so that prospectors can have new service fronts and the reopening of the Salamangone mine.
Another concern is to seek with the Brazilian Army the acquisition of explosives for direct care through the cooperative, partnerships, investors for both members and the cooperative, providing new service fronts and the creation of an agreement with the Tames clinic for specialized medical and laboratory care for the member’s family. “We are also going to start renegotiating with the banks interested in a partnership for financing in production and settlement of the cooperative’s debts”adds Dalvina.
