The Chamber of Deputies will hold the first formal session in honor of the National Day of Lesbian Visibility on August 29, in an event that should remember the death of Luana Barbosa after a police approach in Ribeirão Preto (SP) in 2016.
The session, proposed by congresswoman Daiana Santos (PC do B-RS), will have the participation of social movements that combat specific violence against lesbian women.
“The 29th will be a day to fight lesbophobia and celebrate our lives, but also to put pressure on Parliament to build effective public policies for our population”, says the deputy.
Family members of Luana, who was a lesbian, say she was assaulted after refusing to be searched by male military police. She died of an acute cerebral ischemia caused by traumatic brain injury.
According to the parliamentarian’s team, the evangelical bench, a strong opponent of the issue, has not yet shown any type of resistance to the holding of the session.
