Chamber opens lawsuits against Nikolas, Eduardo, Zambelli and 4 more deputies – 05/30/2023 – Politics

The Council of Ethics of the Chamber opened this Tuesday (30) disciplinary proceedings against seven federal deputies for breach of parliamentary decorum, emptying the list of representations that had been shelved since the beginning of the year.

The targets of the proceedings are MPs Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), Márcio Jerry (PC do B-MA), Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), José Medeiros (PL-MT), Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), Juliana Cardoso (PT-SP) and Talíria Petrone (PSOL-RJ).

The opening of the processes occurs in the midst of the effort of the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), to contain exalted manifestations and aggressions in the House, after a troubled beginning of the legislature.

The most emblematic cases involved deputies Nikolas Ferreira and Márcio Jerry.

The Minas Gerais deputy is the target of representation by the PSOL, PT, PDT, PC do B and PSB parties for having used the Chamber’s tribune to wear a wig and make transphobic statements on International Women’s Day.

In the representation, the left parties ask that Nikolas be punished with the loss of mandate. “Due to his transphobic speeches, the Defendant abuses his constitutional prerogatives and, therefore, must lose his mandate”, says an excerpt from the document.

After the repercussions of the case, Nikolas said that he had not been transphobic in the plenary. “I defended the right of women not to lose their space in sports for trans people —in view of the biological difference—and not to have a man in the women’s bathroom. There is no transphobia in my speech. I clarified the example with a wig (shocking). going beyond that is hysteria and narrative,” he wrote on social media.

Such as Sheet showed, the leadership of the Chamber considers that the PL deputy deserves to be punished for the transphobic speech with a warning, censorship or suspension, without considering the possibility of impeachment.

Deputy Jerry is accused of harassment for approaching Deputy Júlia Zanatta (PL-SC) from behind and saying words close to her ear during a conversation at the audience with the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, at the Public Security Commission of the Chamber.

“It remains proven that in the premises of the Chamber of Deputies, during a Session of the Public Security Commission in the plenary, Deputy Julia Zanatta was approached by the Defendant with inappropriate and unacceptable behavior for a parliamentarian, in a clear and undeniable act of an abusive nature with contours of harassment sexual and even political violence against women”, says the PL in the representation when asking for the loss of the parliamentary mandate.

After the accusations, Jerry denied that he had harassed his colleague and said he was a victim of fake news. “I’m putting together all the publications that were made because, at that point, a mechanism is operating that is already usual. Fake news is planted and, in the wake of this dissemination, a horde goes after this fake news to attack the victim , which in this case is me. I am a victim of fake news,” he said.

Deputy Juliana Cardoso was the target of a representation from the PP, Arthur Lira’s party, for having stated that the parliamentarians who voted in favor of the urgency of the bill of time for the demarcation of indigenous lands were “murderers”.

“[Juliana] Adopted a procedure incompatible with parliamentary decorum, having clearly and unequivocally breached and disrespected the Constitution, the Laws and the internal rules of this House of Laws and the National Congress, by abusing its parliamentary prerogatives to disturb the order of sessions, infringe rules of good conduct and insult other Parliamentarians and the President of this Chamber of Deputies”, wrote the PP.

Eduardo Bolsonaro will answer for having insulted deputy Marcon (PT-RS), who questioned the stabbing suffered by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Correligionist Carla Zambelli will defend herself for the insults uttered against deputy Duarte Jr (PSB-MA).

Deputy Talíria Petrone was the target of representation for having offended deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) during a session of the MST’s CPI; José Medeiros responds for intimidating the president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann.
