Brasilia DF) – The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), said this Monday (5) that the Chamber has shown signs of maturity in approving agendas of interest to the government, despite the fact that many parties do not make up the base, but considered that the “fuel is running out”. Lira met alone this morning with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the Alvorada Palace, in view of the crisis in the articulation between the government and Congress.

“I understand that no party should feel obligated to vote on government matters without being a government base. What the Chamber has done is to have given clear signs of maturation, of a very great political civility in negotiating matters from the district to what they represent, but of course that fuel is running out. This sign was made in a meeting where all the leaders of the Chamber, opposition, independents and the government were”, said Lira during an interview with CNNafter a meeting with the president in which, according to him, “major problems and important projects” were discussed.

Lira reinforced that the main problem of the government is the lack of an effective base and considered that the Executive has been counting on the “goodwill” of the parties in the process of approving matters, such as the MP of the Ministries, approved on the eve of losing its validity. and under opposing pressure from Centrão parliamentarians.

“The government needs to do, together with its leaders and with those who work in the articulation, a process of regimenting a base that proves to be crystal clear. Today, the government has been counting on the good will of those parties that are voting republican”, evaluated the president of the Chamber.

Lira confirmed that Lula will meet with party leaders this Monday, in a new strategy for the government’s political articulation. As the report showed, the president called this meeting in view of the clear difficulties in the relationship with Congress, including grassroots parties. Before reticent to enter the negotiations, Lula was forced to review the strategy after the risk of defeat in the provisional measure of the restructuring of the ministries.

“We hope that at this meeting the president will be able to listen, listen and know what he already knows, because all the problems inherent in the base of the government, which is the responsibility of articulation, which is the responsibility of government leaders, he needs to normalize”, said Lira.
