Chamber approves transformation of Comel into Municipal Secretary of Sport and Leisure – News of Brazil

This Tuesday (9), the City Council of Macapá approved Complementary Bill No. 010/2023-PMM that creates the Municipal Secretary of Sport and Leisure (Semel). The law is authored by the Municipality of Macapá and allows the creation of the secretariat that will promote sports practices and public policies for the sector in the capital. With the approval, the Municipal Coordination of Sport and Leisure, linked to the Municipal Secretary of Health (Semsa), will be extinguished.
The creation of the secretariat is an important step towards guaranteeing quality of life, education and dissemination of sport. The reformulation of the administrative structure takes into account the need to modernize the Secretariats.

Comel will be extinct
With the approval of the Complementary Law by the Municipality of Macapá, the Municipal Coordination of Sports and Leisure linked to the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) will be extinguished. This includes the extinction of several positions, such as the Sports and Leisure Coordinator, the High Performance Sports Department, the Financial Administrative Department, the Participatory Sports Department and the Educational and Special Sports Department.
Semel will be created
Semel will be responsible for carrying out the organization and control of sports, recreational and leisure activities and advise the other spheres of the Municipal Administration in the elaboration, review and execution of local planning, in the areas of leisure and sports in Macapá.
The new law will enter into force on the date of its publication. With the approval in the municipal law house, the project goes to the sanction of the mayor of the capital, Dr. Furlan.
