Challenges of being a teacher is the theme of Folha’s series – 05/08/2023 – Education

After two years of closed schools and an unprecedented wave of threats and attacks on teaching units, being a teacher in Brazil has become even more challenging. The causes and consequences of these difficulties will be the subject of a new series by Sheet.

There will be two reports on the subject each week, always published on the special page Educação: Missão Professor. The texts are exclusive to subscribers. The premiere will be next Wednesday (10).

The closure of schools due to the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a drop in learning by students in public and private schools in all stages of basic education, showed the results of the most recent federal assessment carried out across the country, in 2021.

In addition, violence registered in schools has increased in recent years. Since August, the average number of attacks on educational institutions in the country has been more than one per month, according to a survey carried out by a group that brings together researchers from Unicamp and Unesp. For comparison, over the previous 20 years, from 2002 through July 2022, the average was just over one attack every two years.

For this reason, the report sought specialists and people who work in the classroom to discuss the present and future of one of the most important professions in the country and the respective transformations necessary to change this reality.

The series “Education: Mission Teacher” will show the consequences of this growing violence, the working conditions and salary of teachers across the country and the educational public policies that impact work in the classroom, such as the expansion of full-time enrollments and the new high school
