The Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) decided this Monday (13/3) to withdraw the secrecy of the vaccination records of former President of the Republic Jair Messias Bolsonaro. However, the information can only be disclosed after the completion of the Comptroller’s investigation into the alleged insertion of false data into the Ministry of Health’s system.

The body’s determination was presented, after analyzing the appeal to the Ministry’s decision that denied a request for the Access to Information Law (LAI) regarding Bolsonaro’s vaccination card last month. In the document, the CGU concluded that the information is of public interest and influenced public immunization policy in Brazil against covid-19, which reinforces the need for disclosure.

According to the CGU, the information must be disclosed within 5 days after the end of the investigation. If there is a record of Bolsonaro’s vaccination, each date, location, manufacturing laboratory and name of the vaccine must be informed by December 31, 2022.

In February of this year, the People’s Gazette showed that experts on the subject and some lawyers close to the former president expressed strangeness and astonishment at the possible breach of secrecy by the CGU. For them, there is no more sense in disclosing the document, because Bolsonaro no longer holds public office, the vaccine was acquired by his government and widely applied in Brazil, and also because the most serious moment of the pandemic is already over.
