Brasilia DF) – The Planalto Palace reported that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) invited Deputy Celso Sabino (União-PA) to take charge of the Ministry of Tourism. According to the government, Sabino’s nomination will appear in the Official Gazette (DOU) in the coming days.

The invitation was made during a meeting, this Thursday (13), at the headquarters of the Presidency. Also participating in the conversation were the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, and the leader of the government in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE).

Currently, the Tourism portfolio is headed by Daniela Carneiro (RJ), who asked to leave União Brasil. The party has pressured the government to replace the current minister with Sabino.

Last week, the Planalto Palace confirmed the departure of Daniela Carneiro from the top echelon of government and the entry of Sabino. After a meeting between Lula and Daniela, the Minister of Communications, Paulo Pimenta, said that the minister made the position available to the president.

União commands three portfolios at the Esplanada dos Ministérios: Tourism, Communications and Regional Integration. Despite this, the party has been against the government in important votes and argues that it does not feel represented by the heads of ministries.

Although his appointment as the new Minister of Tourism has not yet been made official, the parliamentarian has spent the last month working informally in the area. He spoke with former ministers and analyzed data and demands from the sector.

A close friend of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), Sabino is in his second term as a parliamentarian. On some occasions, during the last legislature, Sabino became close to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and even accompanied him on trips.
