As the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevicius, visits Brazil, Cebri (Brazilian Center for International Relations) and the EU Delegation (European Union) in Brazil promoted the online event “Circular Economy: Opportunities for the Strategic Partnership between Brazil and the EU”.
Sinkevicius came to the country to meet with the vice president Geraldo Alckmin, the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, and the president of the BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, to discuss, among other matters, the Amazon Fund.
At the event, the EU ambassador, Ignácio Ybánez, reinforced Brazil’s role as a strategic partner for Europe in the climate and environmental agenda.
On Friday (5), the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, announced a contribution of approximately R$ 500 million to the Amazon Fund. In a press conference on Saturday (6), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that King Charles III asked for the preservation of the Amazon in the meeting they had on the occasion of his coronation.
